Get a Quote for The Gilded ValeThe Gilded Vale at Clover Hill is a historic wedding and event estate in North Carolina’s Happy Valley, set on more than 70 acres of rolling farmland along the Yadkin River with the Ripshin Mountains as a backdrop. The main house — a Greek Revival mansion built in 1846 by Edmund Jones for his bride, Sophia Davenport — has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973 and was fully restored beginning in 2024 by the Huffman family.
Celebrations are hosted across the estate: ceremonies on the grounds, indoor receptions for up to 200 guests in the restored Legerwood Surrey House, and getting-ready space in “The Edmund” gentlemen’s suite and “The Sophia” ladies suite. Weekend packages run from Friday morning through Sunday, and on-site lodging sleeps up to 22 guests between the Clover Hill Estate, Mae Ann’s Cottage and Mattie’s Place.

The estate sleeps 22 — everyone else is staying somewhere else. Most Gilded Vale guests book in Blowing Rock, at Leatherwood Mountains, or at the hotels in Lenoir, then drive Indian Grave Road and the Happy Valley back roads in the dark to get to you. Ashe County Livery runs the whole weekend so they don’t have to: continuous guest shuttles, bridal party transport, excursion runs, airport transfers and the getaway car.
